Gauhati Commerce College Centre of Management Studies (GCMS) is a dedicated management education unit that offers professional programmes in business administration, under Gauhati Commerce College, Guwahati. The college was founded in 1962, and it has been conferred with the prestigious Autonomous Status by the University Grants Commission of India with effect from April, 2026.
GCMS came into existence in the year 2009 with affiliation of Gauhati University & approval from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), with the goal of becoming a specialist institute in the field of Management Education. GCMS offers a 2-year full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme designed to equip students with managerial, analytical, & leadership skills. The programme typically admits graduates from any discipline & follows a structured curriculum combining core management subjects, specialization areas, & practical exposure. With an intake capacity of 60 students, the course is delivered in a full-time mode over 4 semesters. GCMS also benefits from the broader academic environment & infrastructure of Gauhati Commerce College, including library facilities, seminar halls, & a placement cell that supports students through training & recruitment opportunities.
The primary aim of establishing the department was to produce a new group of management professionals from the potential candidates & to mould them into future entrepreneurs & corporate leaders through efficient mentoring, result oriented teaching, personality development programmes, & by providing a conducive environment inside the class room that inspires the students to lead the way for creating a better tomorrow.
The Department also takes pride in its esteemed faculty members, who have been trained at renowned institutions & organizations across India. In addition, visiting faculty from other premiere establishments interact with the students frequently, which help in expanding their knowledge base.
